This Week Avon Gorge Hotel Clifton (Bristol)

Avon Gorge Hotel Clifton (Bristol)

Sion Hill, Clifton

Now no longer a spring chicken I can lay claim to have stayed in a lot of hotels around the world, but I really am pushed to think of one that has had a better view from the bedroom window. The view, well to the right is the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, and you can see it in your pyjamas! You also get a pretty good view of the impressive gorge as well. It is in Clifton Village which we found to be a relaxed and stylish area with some fine architecture, distinctive local shops and boutiques and of course places to eat.

The Avon Gorge has a variety of rooms and even the singles are not particularly small.

Contemporary Family Rooms

Each newly styled family bedroom will offer a contemporary, relaxing and enjoyable environment for your trip to Bristol.Decorated with soft tones, it includes all the creature comforts you require.

Classic Family Room

We stayed in a classic family room which contained a double and single bed, with room for an additional zed-bed or cot. It was incredibly roomy and despite the two beds there was plenty of space, which is a strong consideration for any family. The bathroom was also large and has a bath/shower if you want to stretch out after a hard days exploring. The large cupboard can even swallow a buggy!

Room includes:

Double bed, single bed
Room for zed-bed and cot
En-suite bathroom
Sky TV
Complimentary WiFi
Tea & coffee making facilities
Avon Gorge Views.

There are two gorge-side terraces that also afford great views. The smaller is part of the popular Bridge Café. More than just a Café, this is a smart and very popular restaurant offering a British menu with a modern twist and a strong wine list to back it up. You can eat inside or out on the terrace and there are floor to ceiling windows so that you don't miss the view. on the night that we dined there we found enough to satisfy the vegetarian in our party and the children's menu gave very generous portions indeed. The menu changes daily, and it has a wide range of choices.

There is also a daily set menu and Sunday Lunch.

Breakfast is buffet style and there are cereals, fruits and a hot British offering of tomatoes, mushrooms, sausages, bacon, baked beans and scrambled egg, as well as cold cuts.

The White Lion Bar has the extensive all-weather terrace area, with great views.

A popular venue for weddings and conferences, we found that it was still quiet even in a room overlooking the terrace and there was a unique blend of old world charm and modern facilities. Only a few minutes drive from the town centre (about 12 minutes by bus) and a brisk walk from the zoo it was a real find.

The Avon Gorge will also be taking delivery of a Gromit (one of 80 throughout the city) as part of Gromit unleashed, yet another reason to visit and enjoy.
