Firouzeh gold collection

Young British Jewellery designer, Touran Reddaway, has drawn on the beauty of the finest treasures to create a range of handmade 18-carat gold jewellery named Firouzeh. The range combines symbolic forms from ancient customs and beliefs with a modern collection of exquisite designs.

The name Firouzeh is a combination of Touran’s mother’s Iranian family name and the Farsi for turquoise, the semi-precious stone favoured in Eastern jewellery as a symbol of happiness and health.

Made using 18 carat gold mixed with pure silver as an alloy, the Firouzeh collection is beautifully complemented by the Onyx, Turquoise, Pearls and other semi-precious stones set into various designs.

Each piece has a story behind it, and will have been inspired by a particular treasure, ancient place or myth. Firouzeh aims to share a side of Iranian and Byzantine culture which is so often forgotten in the current political climate between East and West: the rich history, creativity and culture which continues to flow.

Jurassic Schleich

Jurassic Fans Can Rediscover a Lost World!

With the news that Jurassic Park is set to be released in eye- popping 3D and brand new species being discovered, dinosaurs are the hottest prehistoric playmates of the summer. Children and dinosaur fans can now also unearth their own pack, as the fiercest Jurassic inhabitants come to life with Schleich’s new Dinosaur collection!

Almost 225 million years after the first dinosaurs roamed the Earth, Schleich has recreated the most iconic prehistoric predators and released them into thewild ready to delight dinosaur-fans. An ever popularboys’ toy, these anatomically correct models take dino fun to a whole new terrifying level! Whilst small enough for children’s hands, the intricate details ensure that these beasts remain ferocious.

Kids can create their own prehistoric worlds, choosing from a whole pack of hand painted dinos. The new stars of the carnivorous collection include Allosaurus, a very dangerous dinosaur indeed, the towering Giganotosaurus

But don’t worry; there are some friendlier faces in Schleich’s Dinosaur collection. As a herbivore, the Brachiosaurus sticks to munching on plants but, at 80 tonnes, is still a formidable creature and weighs as much as 16 elephants!

With so many figures to choose from, Schleich has a prehistoric playmate for everyone!

Looking forward to it.............

We are proud to be staying at Chessington in May in one of the animal themed rooms.

I am a great fan of theme parks, zoos and fun activity places. I even went to Orlando on honeymoon. The idea of mixing animals with theme parks is always good, especially for a family where one of the children may prefer to see the zebras whilst another would like to go on a ride.

Look for our feature week starting May 20th.

My son is already practicing his animal speak and is hoping to stroke a zebra!

Dirty Dancing

I had the time of my life the instantly recognisable antheme of Dirty Dancing the block buster 80's movie got the crowd on its feet as the national tour rolled into Milton keynes.  So popular and successful is this show that it will be playing there until May 26 and the tour extended to 2013.

The performance stays true to the spirit of the film, with the audience knowing almost all the words before they are even spoke so they laughed, cheered and clapped all the way through before giving the cast a  deserved standing ovation. Paul Michael-Jones, who plays JohnnyCastle and Emily Holt, as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, manage to capture the magic of the dancing that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey made so iconic. Charlotte Gooch, as Penny Johnson, manages to show the sexy yet soft sides of the character. Joe Evans performance as the out of his depth boss Neil Kellerman  was played with a  great mix of pathos and comic timing.

The soundtrack is packed with early 1960s hits including Be My Baby, Just One Look, Save The Last Dance for Me and There Will Never Be Another You. Performed by live musicians and singers which proved to be a great success the audience couldn’t help but sing along.Moving a production from screen to stage is always a challenge but was done well. The water and forest scenes incorporated with the help of a clever set with moving floors, transparent screens and projected images.
Dirty Dancing is at Milton Keynes Theatre until May 26. For tickets and information visit www.atgtickets.com

Kids Day Out

A great site to find things to do with the kids at any time of the year and within your own area.

You can find things by map or by type of entertainment. There are also links to the attractions to give you more info and allow you to book online if you wish.

You don't have to log in.

As a great fan I thought we should tell people about it, Happy Families promotes things which are good for families, we dont carry advertising (except for special issues normally in print/download) so our editorial team is free to promote the products, services and places they like best.

We still have our Happy Activites - these are for places we have actually been to ourselves and can vouch for personally. It normally takes a few of us a couple of visits before we include a place in this.

We see and visit a great many other places throughout the year and we always include a feature on it and a link to their site.

Happy familiying (not easy to say that)

We have added Kids Day Out to our buttons on the main menu at the top of the site.
